Steiff released their new Spring line of Teddy bears and friends for 2016 and it's out of this world! What a great selection! There are many exciting white tag limited editions like Uncle Sam, a musical Teddy bear that is sure to capture the hearts of many proud Americans. Although best know for being the face of historic recruiting campaigns for the U.S. military, the origins of 'Uncle Sam' date back even further. The name is linked to Samuel Wilson, a meat packer from Troy, New York, who supplied barrels of beef for the U.S. Army during the War of 1812. Wilson stamped the barrels with 'U.S.' for United States, but soldiers began referring to the meat as 'Uncle Sam's'. To bring this historic figure to life, Steiff has given this Teddy a music box that plays the tune “America, The Beautiful”.
New for 2016, Steiff's Picnic Series makes it's debut. A family of Steiff bears is ready for an afternoon outing in the countryside. With a bottle of red wine, a delicious baguette and some cheese... Picnic Papa already feels as if he were surrounded by the lavender scented summer breeze from his favorite landscape in Provence. He just loves the countryside of South France! Picnic Mama is dressed and packed for the family outing, as are their little ones. Picnic Boy is bringing along his new kite and Picnic Girl has a brand new parasol.
Pixi Mouse knows picnics are very popular in the Provence of South France and that there is always something yummy left behind. Pixi scavenges the countryside and look what he found... A block of cheese. Originally there were only a few small holes in the piece of cheese. Since then a pretty big one has appeared... and the question is... will Pixi's big round tummy still fit through?
Pixi Mouse isn't the only one wandering the meadows. Mommel Rabbit happily hops through the fields of lavender, enjoying the beautiful sunshine and crisp Spring air. He is on lookout for a delicious patch of clover. He brings a yummy carrot with him to nibble on just in case he gets hungry along the way.
Between 1926 and 1928, 30,000 Teddy Clowns left Steiff's workshop - all of them with black pompons and ruffs of blue, red, orange or purple. A good 90 years later a Teddy clown with black pompons and a black ruff popped up in Southern Germany! So Steiff rewrites history by showcasing this stunning Teddy Clown Replica 1926. He is truly a striking bear with delicately sculpted, tipped Schulte mohair and is stuffed with soft wood shavings. He even has a squeaker.
The original version of the 1922 Replica measures over 27" and is now owned by an American collector. Steiff has reinterpreted this characterful companion and present him in a smaller size of 14". Everything has been made as in the past including a loosely-jointed neck, a sincere expression, German glass eyes, a growler and excelsior stuffing. His shiny, curly coat is made of finest caramel tipped Schulte mohair making him a very desirable Teddy bear. Like all Replicas, Teddy Clown Replica 1926 and Teddy Bear Replica 1922 bear the special 'underscored-button' made of patinated steel to make them each a true replica.
The history of Steiff began with a little elephant. As the legend goes, a young Margarete Steiff overcame many challenges and completed her training as a seamstress at the age of 17. She worked in this trade for many years and even ran her own dress-making business. In the magazine Modenwelt (Fashion World) from December 8, 1879, Margarete saw the sewing pattern for a small stuffed elephant. Using this pattern, she made the elephant as a pin cushion, but soon the little stuffed animals became very popular as children's toys. And so Steiff literally began with an elephant.
The 135 Year Jubilee Teddy Bear commemorates that magical moment in Steiff history with both a wonderful, classic Steiff Teddy and a felt elephant with a colorful saddle. Symbolic of that historic year, the Jubilee Teddy is a limited edition of only 1,880.
Since 1975, The Toy Shoppe has offered the finest Teddy bears and animal friends from around the world. Our interest-free flexible payment plans are easy and make your collecting fun and stress free. And you won't find a more knowledgable, friendly staff than at The Toy Shoppe.

Margarete Steiff designed her first soft-filled fabric toy animal, an elephant made of felt, and began the family business. Margarete's nephew Richard Steiff studied art in Stuttgart and brought a heightened sense of realism to Steiff designs. In 1902, Steiff created the 55PB, a mohair plush bear that is the basis for the modern Teddy Bear we know today.
In 1902, Clifford Berryman, a well-know cartoonist for the Washington Post, made popular a caricature little bear with American president Theodore Roosevelt: thus, the "Teddy" bear was born. Children and adults have made the Teddy bear an iconic toy, universally loved and adored. Over the years, Steiff's focus on delighting children with realistic soft animals brought them fame around the world. Their innovations in airbrushing, choice materials and manufacturing have created toys that are prized everywhere.
Steiff continues to create Teddy bears and other animal friends at their factory in the small town of Giengen, Germany. After 125 years, Steiff continues to lead the world in the finest Teddy bear designs and manufacturing. Their commitment to quality and excellence has brought joy to generations around the world.
Where things are created by hand, there is always a lot of creativity, energy, ability, experience, enthusiasm for the little details and dexterity at work. Steiff creations are hand made with lots of love - love of detail and love of the finished product itself. It is exactly this enthusiasm for the beautiful things in life, the extraordinary and the desire for perfection that you will feel when you hold a Steiff animal in your hands.
Each Steiff animal tells his own story. He tells of his soft, comical or even untamed, wild, role models in nature. He reveals his own personal story of his journey from a bold vision, to an initial idea and his first birthday as a sample animal. He tells a tale of his creation from the finest materials - precious wool felt and cuddly plush of fine alpaca and mohair. His friendly eyes and hand stitched features reveal the moment in which he received his unmistakable character.
It seems as if time stands still for just a moment when you see that friendly, curious smile of your new Steiff friend for the very first time. Your new friend is sure to make you happy and may even bring back memories you thought had been lost forever - memories to cherish and share with your Steiff friend forever.
The luxurious wool from the fur of an Alpaca is the warmest and thickest natural fiber that exists. Many years ago, Steiff discovered the exclusive alpaca for production of wonderful Steiff products. With its incomparable quality and lasting value, alpaca embodies an aesthetic quality and sensuousness at the same time. Thanks to the natural unsurpassable qualities of alpaca, Steiff creations retain their long lasting beauty.
Silky smooth, lustrous and a gentle softness that invites you to touch and feel: all of these are characteristics of mohair. It is a fascinating natural fiber obtained from the very long, curly and sumptuous white fur of the angora goat - one of the most valuable races of goats in the world. Since 1901, Steiff has used this wonderfully lustrous, thick and velvety-feeling beautiful fiber to make their creations.
A Steiff animal owes its lifelike character to its exceptionally real and natural-feeling coat made of woven fur. This is the result of a unique three-dimensional weaving technique in which the wonderfully soft woven fur is made. The thread is woven perpendicularly into the cotton backing - thus giving each Steiff creation a lifelike character of their real role model. It is so delightfully soft that it entices you to cuddle them, stroke them and play with them.
Pictured below is a young Margarete Steiff who founded Steiff in 1880 and established the company's commitment to quality when she devised their motto.
We voluntarily go far beyond the legally required standards and even surpass them. Because we are convinced that only animals which pose no health hazard deserve the good name Steiff.
We have high expectations of our suppliers whom we oblige to adhere to the strict Steiff guidelines. We extensively examine all the basic materials before they are used in production.
We have voluntarily imposed stricter regulations than required by law for all our dyes and colours. Children can put Steiff products in their mouths without any misgivings.
Only the finest natural fibres, such as mohair and alpaca or woven fur made of synthetic fibres, are woven in our own weaving manufactory, Steiff Schulte in Duisburg. Furthermore, we use only carefully-selected, inspected materials by well-known manufacturers.
The plush of a Steiff animal has always been something special. It is extraordinarily true-to-nature, soft, long-lasting and does not lose any hair. We use only lint-free uppers made of the highest quality.
We use exclusively new and non-harmful materials from the factory for the fillings of our Teddy bears and soft animals. The fillings of our animals are, of course, inspected by Oeko-Tex.
This is ensured by the standardised Steiff seam width as well as the high density of seams, which is typical only for animals from our company. A Steiff animal will last a lifetime.
For the production of our animals, we pay careful attention that we adhere to all hygiene and cleanliness standards. For example, that is why use metal detectors during all the production processes.
For decades, we have had our products independently inspected by the LGA in Nuremberg, and we collaborate intensively with other independent institutes, such as TUV and Dekra. In our laboratory in Giengen an der Brenz, we conduct over 12,000 additional tests every year. The Steiff Quality Management System is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001 (German Industrial Standards)
Throughout the various production steps, we produce continuously environmentallyfriendly as well as in view of the flawless quality and longevity of our products. A Steiff animal can be a companion throughout a whole childhood and still be a source of joy even as an adult.
