The dolls Annette thought she'd never make...
The five dolls of the Farewell Collection are the most child-like vinyl dolls that Annette has ever created! Annette has sculpted captivating, charming faces that are rich in emotion and expression. Each of these Kinder has stunning mouth-blown, German glass eyes. The jointing in their upper arms and at their neck offers realistic posing opportunities. The love and care that went into creating this exceptional collection is obvious, from their custom hand-painted faces and hand-knotted wigs to their spectacular outfits - all designed by Annette, of course! This is truly a unique and special collection guaranteed to warm your heart.
The Farewell Kinder were created using only the mother moulds. These moulds have limited functionality and are normally used only to make the artist proofs, pulling one part at a time. This collection was never expected to be completed so no production moulds were ever produced! That is why each edition of the Farewell Collection is limited to only 43 dolls. These extraordinary circumstances make this collection of dolls uniquely personal and special in so many ways.
We are honored that Annette chose The Toy Shoppe to represent her final collection exclusively. Enjoy!

The Toy Shoppe Is Proud To Bring You The Dolls That Annette Himstedt Thought She'd Never Make...
Upon sharing the news of her manufactory's closure, Annette collaborated closely with The Toy Shoppe to ensure the appropriate ending of this chapter in her career. She is very pleased that her final kinder, as well as her own private collection of past dolls and artist's proofs, will be represented solely by The Toy Shoppe. It is an honor to be chosen by Annette. We are as excited to bring you the Farewell Collection today as we were to bring you Annette's ground-breaking Barefoot Children Collection in 1986. Enjoy!

Behind The Scenes Of The Farewell Collection
As you may know, Annette would begin work on each new collection just after the introduction of the previous one. So by last September, when she announced the forthcoming closure of her manufactory, five raw heads and sets of arms, legs and chests were already completed. But that was all. And raw sets of parts are a far cry from five finished individual dolls, let alone an entire collection.
Up to the very last month, Annette couldn't imagine that she might have the time to complete these dolls. She was so very busy producing the last orders, as well as packing and selling
the premises. However, as things were wrapping up with the manufactory, Annette looked at those unfinished faces and resolved to make it happen. She took on this Herculean undertaking and the Farewell Collection was brought to life! |

The Realization Of The Farewell Collection
Although not as extensive as her previous collections (each Farewell Kinder is limited to only 43 dolls), Annette was thrilled that she managed to bring her creations to fruition. Those collectors who have gone to one of her manufactory Open Days and those Club members who have seen photographic documentaries in Undine, the Club magazine, know that an army of up to 80 people was involved in the different stages of doll production! |
An Army Of Five
Only 5 people remained on her production team by spring: two men working in the vinyl casting process, one person putting the joints together, a tailor and the person who dyes the fabrics. This meant that Annette set the eyes, glued and styled the eyelashes, put on the wigs, styled each doll's hair, dressed them, as well as placed the final details on the outfits and the accessories.
Annette hand-finished each doll in the Farewell Collection herself! |

A Few Words From Annette:
"I'm especially happy to have been able to give this collection to The Toy Shoppe as an exclusive. Ever since we started working together in 1986, I would have liked to offer them a doll as an exclusive, but my commitments never allowed enough time. Over the years we've had such a great working relationship that also turned into a treasured friendship. I couldn't think of anyone better than Danny and Barrie Shapiro to present these dolls."
